Who Needs a Portable Cooktop? Anyone?
Everything these days come in portable versions. Well what do you know, even laborious cooking can already be done on a portable cooktop. For serious cooks like me, the most important feature of an induction portable cooktop is it can give out a very powerful heating as any other sort. You can adjust the heat instantly while giving you great precision. Yup no more guesstimating!
Before portable cooktops were made popular, good cooks including professionals preferred gas to any other forms of electric cooking for the reason of ample “inertia”. With ordinary electric cookers, when you adjust the heat setting, the coil, halogen or heater will slowly increase or decrease the temperature. And this is not ideal for a busy cook like me! I want things fast in my kitchen. With gas, when you adjust the element setting, the energy flow adjusts immediately (literally!).
A portable cooktop would have been great if not for people like me who likes spontaneity in the kitchen. But with many years of research and innovation, companies have finally figured out how to make cooking easy and hassle-free, not to mention safer and more enjoyable. The portable induction cooktop was born! Hallelujah!
For those of you who don’t have any idea what induction cooking is, it is simply distinguished from other usual forms of stovetop cooking by the fact that the heat is generated DIRECTLY INTO THE COOKING VESSEL in contrast to being generated in the stovetop and then transferred to the cooking vessel. Your cooking vessel my friend is just your pan or whatever you use to cook your food at.
With a portable cooktop, a coil or copper wire is placed underneath the cooking pot. An oscillating current is then applied to that coil to produce an alternating magnetic field. The heat level is instant and as exact as with gas but with none of the many cons of gas. That’s good news right? The induction elements can be pretty much adjusted to increments as fine as the cooker maker wants to supply. It’s just like gas! If you’re concerned about the portable cooktop not being able to run as low as cooking heat as wanted for gentle simmering and slow cooking, well that is already taken cared of!
Another great thing about a portable electric cooktop is that there will be no wasted heat because the energy is supplied directly to the cooking vessel. Almost all if not all the source of energy gets transferred to that vessel. With gas and conventional electric cookers, the energy should be converted to heat first and then it will be directed to the cooking vessel. Now you know why your kitchen is a little bit hot. Get this: 40% of the energy in gas gets used to cook whereas an induction portable cooktop, 84% of the energy used gets utilized to cook. Now you can have a cooler kitchen!
You’ll have a cool stovetop so no more burned fingers and no more danger especially if you have kids around. How cool is this- you can turn an induction element to maximum and place your hand flat over it with no consequences. Now that’s A-mazing!
